Senior journalist and scholar Aroon Tikekar passed away on 19th January 2016. Known for writing skill he in his long career worked for different newspaper groups and authored over 20 books. An inspiration to many he was recipient of several literary and journalism awards.
Born on 1 February 1944 Aroon hailed from Solapur and came from a family of authors and journalists. After completing his studies he joined college as a teacher and worked there for some years. He began his journalistic career with Times of India and soon became a Senior Assistant Editor with the Maharashtra Times. He also shared the role of Archival Research Chief at the Times of India. From 1992 to 2002 he worked as the editor of Marathi newspaper Loksatta of the Indian Express Group Newspaper. An ardent supporter of Marathi vernacular press he was Editor Director of Sakal group of newspapers. He joined Pune University in 2009 where as the Adjunct Professor in the Department of Journalism and Communications. During his lifetime he wrote number of Marathi language books and newspaper columns. He will be missed by his friends and colleagues.
